How Active Daylighting Works.

All sun tracking So-Luminaire use the sun twice at the same time, with the sun coming from opposite directions during low and medium sun angles. In the morning the mirrors face east. As the sun rises, the mirrors follow the sun using our patented tracking system. The mirrors receive optimum reflective benefits medium and low sun angles and partially shadows the skylight during summer high sun angles. When the sun sets in the evening, the tracking system returns the mirrors to the east for the next morning sun. This combination creates an active/passive hybrid design. This unique design provides an even spread of light inside the building and higher light levels during low and medium sun angles. This is not possible to achieve with just a passive system.

A diagram of the ADS-600 basic construction During high summer sun angles when radiant heat gain is greatest, our mirrors angled at 65", partially shades the skylight dome lens. Reducing excessive light glare and direct radiant heat gains up to 50%.

So-Luminaire's two diffusion lenses create two dead air spaces which act as thermal barriers to reduce conductive heat gain/loss. Optimum daily efficiencies in light levels, even light spread and reduction of conductive and radiant heat gains and heat loss is provided by this system.

The system delivers enough daylight to turn off electric lights from one hour after sunrise to one hour before sunset - an average of 10 hours per day.

Specifications:

  • Large weather-resistant dome.
Large, UV-resistant dome is designed to protect the mirror assembly form the elements.  Dome dimensions - 48 in x 48 in x 24 in.

  • Suspended mirror assembly.
Three lightweight mirror panels are suspended from a bar inside the dome, and rotate once every 10 minutes to match the sun's position in the sky.  The mirrors pick up low-angle sunlight and partially shade the glare from direct high-angle light.  The PV cell powering the unit also turns with the mirrors.

  • Compact, self-contained control unit.
Reliable all-in-one construction places the power source, drive unit, and electronics within a control box at the peak of each dome.
